CFIS Case Study - Greg Poole

CFIS — identity and communications collateral

Objectives: create a memorable identity for a newly-formed college at the University of British Columbia

Key Audiences: graduate-level academics and professionals at leading educational institutions around the world

Design Solutions: the client asked for a two-fold approach: to introduce the college to the academic community, they used the full wordmark/tagline with a graphic that conveys ‘interdisciplinarity’, i.e., the connections and interactions among faculties and schools at UBC and around the world. Their goal was to become known as CFIS (‘seefiss’) and ultimately use the logo with that acronym. As the college became established, they introduced this into their branding and eventually moved to its use exclusively. Along with the visual identity guidelines, other communications graphics projects such as the large-format banners shown have continued to date.
